Chapter 2

If a certain man.
   is found to have died,
then we must conclude
   that there was a time
      when he was alive.
But this does not mean.
that if we know of a
      time
when he was alive,
that we may conclude
   that he has died.
It may be.
   that he was alive,
and it may be
that he has not yet died.
But we do know.
that if there was ever a
  man that was never
     alive,
then we must conclude
   that he has not died.
.
If a certain man
   is standing on
      a particular spot,
then this proves
   that no other man
      is standing on it.
But if no other man.
   is standing on
      that particular spot,
this does not prove
   that the certain man is
      standing on it.
But if another man is.
   standing on that
      particular spot,
then this does proves
   that the certain man
      is not standing on it.
.
If something is white,
   then it is not black.
But just because
   something is not black
doesn't prove that it's
   white instead.
But if something is black,.
   then we know it's not
      white.
So if the first fact proves
   that the second is true,
then if the second is false,
   the first is false too.
.
If the contradiction
   of a fact proves false,
then the truth does prove
   the fact itself. 4
And if a fact in truth.
   does exist,
then every other fact
   must confirm that it is.
Thus,.
if a fact indeed
   truly exists,
then even
   the fact that it's not
      must prove that it is.
And.
if the fact that it's not
   should even
      prove that it is,
then the fact in question
   truly exists,
and it can no longer be
   argued with...

4. For example, if an opposing witness in a trial should contradict himself, then the other side should win the case.
